Monday Night Stays Strong with Winning Team of Hit Dramas "Gossip Girl" and "One Tree Hill"

On Monday, the powerhouse combination of GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL will remain in place. Last fall, this winning team made The CW the Number One network with women, and sent Monday night ratings up 118 percent in women 18-34. GOSSIP GIRL, which continues to be one of the most talked-about shows on television, will return to its 8:00-9:00 p.m. slot, followed by ONE TREE HILL from 9:00-10:00 p.m.

Join the four best friends as they finish their first year of college and dive into a summer of excitement. Bridget (Blake Lively) journeys to Turkey on an archaeological dig. Carmen (America Ferrera) plunges into the hectic, creative world of summer theatre in Vermont. Lena (Alexis Bledel) discovers new love and old heartbreak at the Rhode Island School of Design. And in the Big Apple, Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) takes a big step in her relationship with Brian.

Cardboard characters and severe problems of tone fatally flaw the awkward satirical relationship drama "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee." Fourth feature from helmer-writer Rebecca Miller ("The Ballad of Jack and Rose," "Personal Velocity," "Angela") feels as schizophrenic as its eponymous heroine. "Reinvented" from Miller’s own novel, this star-studded tale of a 50ish married woman coming to terms with her troubled past reps something of a pig-in-a-poke for buyers who nabbed presales rights. While watchable, it’s not exactly a commercial property or, for that matter, arthouse material, and thus reps a marketing challenge unlikely to receive critical support.

"Gossip Girl" (7 p.m. Monday, WGN-Ch. 9) may be spinning off a new show, which would be set before the soap's teen characters were born.

The May 11 episode of the CW show will serve as the pilot for a potential new series from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the creators of "Gossip Girl." The new show, which doesn't have a title yet, would chronicle the high school adventures of Lily van der Woodsen, a wild child turned society matron who is played by Kelly Rutherford on "Gossip Girl."

In the grand tradition of "Beverly Hills, 90210" (the first version) and "The O.C.," "Gossip Girl" has become the trend-setting series du jour for a generation of high schoolers and anyone juvenile enough to revel in the hook ups and mishaps of rich teens run amok in New York City (this reporter included). Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford -- the series' stars are fast becoming magazine and blog staples, the soon-to-be kings and queens of young Hollywood. Though the show may not be a ratings powerhouse, its fan base is devout and all about the Web -- episodes consistently show up on iTunes' most-downloaded list. CW, Monday, 9 p.m.

Gossip Girl is taking a week off from the drama, and won't be returning with a new episode, "Carrnal Knowledge," until February 2. But there are definitely enough rumors, spoilers, and future casting leaks to keep us busy until then. Not to mention lingering big questions that are driving us mad, such as: whatever happened between Blair and Jack?!
