The Bacon Brothers are performing at select Hard Rock locations to help raise funds and awareness for the organization Musicians On Call. Musicians On Call (MOC) was founded in 1999 with the mission of bringing live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities to enhance the healing process. If you don't have HBO, find someone who does.
Invite yourself over next time "Taking Chance" is being shown.
This breathtaking short film - it runs about one hour 15 minutes - is astonishing. I watched it twice last weekend. If I don't turn on HBO again for the rest of the year, I've gotten my money's worth.

BERLIN (AFP) Oscar winner Renee Zellweger on Thursday captivated the Berlin Film Festival with "My One and Only," a romantic comedy set in the 1950s, as the race for the Berlin Film Festival's coveted Golden Bear neared its climax. Appearing for the first time opposite "JFK" star Kevin Bacon, Zellweger plays Ann Devereaux who leaves her adulterous but rich musician husband (Bacon) and hits the road with her two teenage sons, George and Robbie, in search of a suitable replacement. The film, a contender for the festival's Golden Bear top prize, follows the trio's progress along a madcap road trip from New York to Hollywood that sees Ann begin a succession of affairs that inevitably end in catastrophe

If you have HBO, there is a "must see" airing on February 21 at 8pm. Based on a true story "Taking Chance" should be required viewing for every American whose sole support of our troops has been to slap a yellow ribbon on their bumper. Please bear in mind the majority of our troops killed in action have been shipped home as "Air Freight" and kept OUT of sight of the public.

Given all the things Kevin Bacon and Michael Bacon do separately, it's an accomplishment for the Bacon Brothers to simply find time to record a new album. But with Kevin's HBO movie "Taking Chance" set to debut Feb. 21 and Michael's score for the PBS special "The Trials of J. Robert Oppenheimer" completed, the Philadelphia natives have a chance to promote their eclectic album " New Year's Day."

The way Kevin Bacon sees it, being in a rock band pretty much fits into the same category as, say, playing a gay hustler, or a playboy astronaut, or - in the case of best-picture-nominated Frost/Nixon - a very loyal and uptight aide to a disgraced ex-president.

Kevin Bacon stars in a poignant film, "Taking Chance," which is based on the real journey of a Marine lieutenant who escorted the remains of a 19-year-old Marine home. Lt.Col. Michael Strobl, who co-wrote the script with director Ross Katz based on the journal that he kept during his journey traveling with the remains of Lance Corp. Chance Phelps of Dubois, Wyo. Strobl, who attended the press conference with Bacon and Katz, said he was inspired to keep a journal on the trip because of the kind gestures of people he met along the way. For example, he noticed that construction workers at a mortuary in Dover, Del., where the remains of several fallen soldiers arrived, would put their hard hats over their hearts and stand at attention each time the bodies were removed from the premises. In another instance, a flight attendant gave him a crucifix."You can presume that these people cover the political spectrum, but they had profound gratitude toward me and sorrow at Chance's loss," Strobl said. As a filmmaker, Katz wanted to tell the story because America "has never seen what it literally takes to take a fallen Marine home." Strobl traveled from Iraq to Germany; Delaware; Philadelphia; Minneapolis; Billings, Mont.; and Wyoming. "The story is a simple one," said Bacon, who plays Strobl. "It’s the story of this man and Chance, who he is returning. It’s not embellished to make it more cinematic or dramatic to make us feel one way or the other based on what our preconceived notions on Iraq are. It’s just a simple telling of what this proecess is like and in its simplicity becomes a profound comment on the casualties of war." "Taking Chance" premieres on Feb. 21. Full Article

"The story is really a very, very simple one,'' Bacon said. "It's really just the story of this man and this person Chance he's returning. And it's almost completely unembellished with anything to make it more cinematic or dramatic or to somehow force us to feel one way or another based on what our preconceived notions are about Iraq and whether or not we should have been in there or whatever. It's just the simple telling of what this process is like and, in its simplicity, I think, becomes an extremely profound kind of comment on the casualties of war.'' Full Article

Los AngelesActor Kevin Bacon Friday said that his new HBO movie, Taking Chances, will help drive home the meaning of casualties of war, no matter how you feel about the conflict.
"In its simplicity, it becomes a profound comment," Bacon said during HBO’s session on Taking Chances at the Television Critics Association press tour.

The top 10 films of 2008, according to AP Movie Writer David Germain & Christy Lemire
David Germain
8. "Frost/Nixon" Frank Langella may not have Richard Nixon's jowls, but he's got the chops and then some to create a riveting portrait. Reprising roles they created in the stage play, Langella and Michael Sheen as David Frost engage in a fascinating battle of wills and wit amid the historic TV interviews from 1977. Without a trace of caricature, Langella is tragically grand in a drama that marks the best work ever from director Ron Howard.
Christy Lemire
2. "Frost/Nixon" The best movie Ron Howard's ever made is also, on its surface, the simplest. By focusing on the 1977 television showdown between British TV personality David Frost and former President Nixon, Howard creates steadily percolating tension, and he draws powerfully fleshed-out performances from Michael Sheen and Frank Langella.

Kevin Bacon - Mr. "Six Degrees" has the Sutherland bug, which sometimes prevents him from saying "No." But right up to the present moment, with his turn as President Nixon's loyal-to-a-fault straight arrow of an aide in "Frost/Nixon," Mr. Bacon has notched an impressive resume of indispensable supporting roles - "Diner," "A Few Good Men," "Apollo 13" and "Mystic River" among them - and, with 2004's "The Woodsman," a brave lead performance.

WHEN KEVIN BACON LOOKED at the world and, "kept seeing God as an excuse to go to war," he decided to write a song. The result was "Children," from the November release, "New Year's Day," which is a slow-riding plea to transcend political or religious views and, "please don't hurt the children."

ALEXANDRIA As movie buffs know, Kevin Bacon has acted in so many movies there are games notably "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" that trace his connection to every "common" person out there. But what they may not realize is that in a way he's more connected to the noncelebrities' lives than those who thrive in his adopted hometown of Hollywood. Doubters need only listen to the tunes Kevin and his brother Michael perform and record under the name "the Bacon Brothers" for verification.

Kevin Bacon has revealed that he may be tempted to appear in the upcoming Footloose remake. The 1984 movie, which launched Bacon's career, is to be remade starring Zac Efron. Efron's High School Musical director Kenny Ortega will helm the film, which revolves around a town where dancing is banned. Bacon told MTV that he is more than happy to "hand over" the baton to Efron. "I’ve got the Footloose baton," he said. "Where did I put that baton? I think it’s in the hall closet. If it’s not it might be under my bed somewhere, but I’m ready to hand it to him… Absolutely. He’d be great."Bacon added that although no-one from Paramount has approached him, he is open to the idea of making an appearance. "Never say never," he said. Credit: www.digitalspy.co.uk

Kevin and Michael Bacon have been enormously successful in their chosen fields. Kevin has appeared in so many films that Hollywood famously is tied together by “the six degrees of Kevin Bacon.” Older brother Michael is a composer who has scored hundreds of films and television shows. The brothers also find time to join artistic forces in a rock band that performs their music. The Bacon Brothers will be at the Canyon Club in the Four Queens on Saturday. Kevin Bacon, 50, made his film debut in “National Lampoon’s Animal House” in 1978. His filmography includes “Diner,” “Footloose,” “Apollo 13,” “A Few Good Men,” “The River Wild” and “Mystic River.” He’s also taken such risky roles as the pedophile in “The Woodsman” and a gay prostitute in “JFK.” Michael, 59, won an Emmy for his work on the 1992 documentary film “The Kennedys.” He also wrote the scores for two films that Kevin directed “Losing Chase” and “Loverboy.” The brothers perform together 50 to 60 times a year, and have made six albums, including “New Year’s Day,” which was released on iTunes last week. The brothers spoke with the Sun in a conference call from their respective apartments on the Upper West Side of New York City.
