Scarlett Johansson was born in New York City on the 22nd of November, 1984. She was born to Karsten Johansson, a Danish architect, and Melanie Sloan. Johansson is the youngest of 4 older siblings, Vanessa (older sister), Adrian (older brother), Hunter (twin brother), and Christian (half-brother). Johansson is also the grand-daughter of screenwriter and director, Ejner Johansson.

At a very young age, Johansson already had the ambition to become an actress. Johansson attended the Professional Children’s School where she graduated in 2002.

Johansson has been in several movies as a child however it wasn’t until 1998 when she gained a lot of praise for her performance The Horse Whisperer where she played Grace MacLean. Her widespread attention continued to rise when in 2001 she played the role of Rebecca in Ghost World, a movie that was loved by many critics.

In 2003, Johansson was nominated for two Golden Globe awards, one for her role as Griet in Girl with a Pearl Earring, a movie based on the novel of the same title. The second was for her performance as Charlotte in Lost in Translation. Due to the success of Lost in Translation as well as her outstanding performance, Johansson soon became a very respected and well-known actress. Her third Golden Globe nomination came to her in 2004 where she earned it in her performance as Purslane Will in A Love Song for Bobby Long.

Johansson has also given her voice talents in the animated movie, Spongebob Square Pants: The Movie. She also worked with Woody Allen twice, both times in London. The first was in the Academy Award – nominated movie Match Point, where Johansson plays Nola Rice. Her second film with Woody Allen was Scoop, where Johansson plays a ditsy young college journalist named Sondra Pransky. Both Match Point and Scoop were overall financially successful.

Aside from her work in movies, Johansson was also known to have campaigned for John Kerry during the 2004 Presidential Election. She also endorsed the Calvin Klein perfume “Moment” (the same commercial for the perfume was also used inside the Michael Bay film ‘The Island’ also starring Johansson). In March of 2006, Johansson ranks number one in the U.S. Edition of FHM magazine as sexiest women alive.

Currently, Johansson is in the 2006 film noir, The Black Dahlia, which can now be seen in theatres. Her next film, The Prestige is set to come out to theatres on October 20, 2006. Johansson also finished shooting The Nanny Diaries in May 2006 and the movie is set to be released in 2007. It’s also been reported that Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman will also begin shooting ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ for a 2007 release.
